The daughter of Samuel Albaugh and Nancy Adaline (Peebler) Garber, Josephine Garber Shy was born November 14, 1855 in Leon, Iowa and died July 18, 1937. She was the twin of Joanna Garber who died at 3 years old. Known to friends and family as Josie, she married William Neil Shy, on February 9, 1873. William was a school teacher as well as a farmer. In later years the couple resided in Carlisle, Arkansas. Both were members of the Church of the Brethren. Interment was made beside her husband at the Shy Cemetery.
