Obituary ~ Ivan Dean Harden

Billings Gazette Billings, Montana
December 27, 2008

ELLENTON, Fla. - Ivan D. Harden, 80, passed away peacefully Friday, Dec. 5, 2008. Ivan and his wife Edith of 59 years recently moved from St Petersburg, Fla., to Ellenton.

Ivan graduated from Lamoni High School in Iowa in 1946 and Kansas City Electrical Trade School in 1948. As part of honors for being in the top three of his graduating class, he was given a choice of first job placement by the school. Ivan chose one in Hardin, Mont., because of the similarity in names. He owned Ideal Electric, later renamed Ideal Refrigeration and Electric. While successfully operating this business, he also worked as auto mechanic, foreman on an oil field, foreman on a cattle ranch, and an electrician for a sugar beet factory, all in Big Horn County, Mont. In 1985 he purchased the Johnstone Supply franchise store in St. Petersburg, Fla. In 1992, he opened another Johnstone Supply in Bradenton, Fla. In May 2008, he transferred ownership of these businesses to his son Douglas, and they are now Harden Supply. His greatest goal was to be a good provider for his family.

He is survived by his wife Edith; one daughter, Nikolina Hansen and her husband Jay of Seneca, S.C.; two sons, Douglas Harden and his wife Cindy of Ellenton and Dustan Harden of St. Petersburg; grandchildren, Brian and Kara Harden of Bradenton, Brett Harden and his wife Nichole of Ellenton, John Hansen and his wife Sarah of Columbus, Ohio, Sarah Marie Hansen of Lexington, Ky., and Charlotte, Jennifer and Kayla Harden of St. Petersburg, and four great-grandchildren. He also has two surviving sisters, Ruth Warren of Leon, Iowa, and Lois Meyer of Joliet, Ill; three brothers, Gerald Harden of Lamoni, Iowa, Robert Harden of Odebolt, Iowa, and Richard Harden of Lineville, Iowa. He is preceded in death by a brother, Don Harden and his parents, Eldon and Marie Harden. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

Celebration of Life service was held Dec 10. Visit an Everlasting Memorial to Ivan at www.mem.com.

In lieu of flowers, an honorarium may be sent to Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care in Ivan's honor to 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.
