Alice Marie Akes Harmon, 76, Raytown, Mo., died September 6, 2009, at John Knox, Lee's Summit, Mo. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, KCMO. Visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the Mass at the church. Burial in Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to City Union Mission, KCMO or the Raytown Emergency Assistance Program, Raytown. Alice was born Oct. 13, 1932, near Leon, Decatur County, Iowa. She was the only child of Stephen Earl and Beulah Ethyl (Epperly) Akes, both of whom predeceased her. On Oct. 30, 1974, she was united in marriage with Glen Evans "Jack" Harmon in Freeport, Ill., where they lived for a number of years.

Their careers took them to Chicago, Kansas City and Dallas. Alice attended numerous schools in Iowa, graduated from Leon High School, and attended Graceland College (now University) and other colleges and universities. She was an executive with banks in Des Moines and other Iowa communities before she joined the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. Her career included bank examination, teaching communications and bank examination and supervision skills for the FDIC, and work with and liquidation of failing and failed financial institutions. She retired in 1992 after 25 years with the FDIC and the Resolution Trust Corporation, working in Illinois, Missouri and Texas.

A Christian since her youth, Alice was a member of St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, KCMO.

She is survived by husband, Glen E. "Jack" Harmon; brother-in-law, William K. Harmon and wife Eleanor, Grand Rapids, Mich., and their descendants; the descendants of her late sister-in-law, Mildred Harmon Fagan; numerous cousins and loyal companion, Casey.
