Dorothy Mae Fairchild, age 81 of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence Burton and Georgia May (Forsythe) Rumley, was born January 3, 1932 in Decatur County, Iowa. She died on Sunday, September 22, 2013 at her Westview Acres home in Leon.

Dorothy was born and raised in Decatur County, Iowa. She attended Sunnyside Country Scholl the Leon High School. On Aug 12, 1950, she married William Lester Fairchild. Dorothy and Lester were blessed with two children, Diana and David. The family lived in Leon and Bloomfield, Iowa before settling in Cedar Falls, Iowa. After Lester's death in 1999, Dorothy moved back to Leon.

During her lifetime, Dorothy worked as a nurse's aide, did laundry for hire and was a child care provider. She loved walking, quilting, crocheting, fishing and animals, especially cats and dogs. Dorothy also raised three of her grandchildren, Jason, Lisa and Randall Fairchild.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Lester, brothers, Loren Rumley and an infant; and sister Joyce Still.

Survivors include her daughter Diana Crist and husband Gordon of Ohio; son David Fairchild and wife Terri of Cedar Falls, Iowa; six grandchildren, Lester Crist, Jason Fairchild, Lisa Fairchild, Randall Fairchild, Nicholas Fairchild and Katie Fairchild; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Junior and Connie Rumley of Monmouth, Oregon, Jessie & Linda Rumley of Leon, Evy Brown of Hemp Hill, Texas, Tom & Lois Still of Cameron, Missouri, Jerry Still, Donnie Still, Linda & Kevin Buckingham all of Leon; sister-in-law Dora Rumley of Leon; nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2013 with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.
