Lonnie Gene Williams, age 52, of Leon, Iowa, the son of Gordon Gene and Cleta Mae (Mark) Williams, was born July 15, 1964, in Leon, Iowa. He passed away at his home on Thursday, October 27, 2016, surrounded by his family.

Lonnie grew up in Corydon, Iowa and attended Wayne Community Schools in Corydon, graduating in 1982. When he was young, he was a cub scout and a boy scout. He enjoyed sports. He played baseball in the Pee Wee League and Little League and played junior high and high school football and basketball. He also spent part of his summers seeing the country, traveling with his dad in his truck. On holidays and weekends the family would stop in Leon so Lonnie and his brother, Les, could visit their grandparents, Myles and Opal Mark, then continue on to Grand River where grandparents, Kenneth and Jessie Williams, lived. They also got to visit with cousins, Danny, Debbie, and Dennis McNeal and eat chocolate chip cookies Grandma Jessie always baked for them.

Lonnie met Laura Mae Fickes while they both worked at Leon Care Center. They have been together the past 25 years. On March 18, 2000, they were married in Leon, Iowa. They made their home in Leon and were blessed with one son, Tyler Gordon Williams, who joined sister, Beth, and brother, Cody. Lonnie was employed in the receiving department of Osceola Foods in Osceola, Iowa for 17 years.

As an adult Lonnie and his friends played basketball and softball, team “Posse” was formed as the Leon softball team 20 years ago. His sons, Tyler and Cody, joined him in playing with other adult teams in the area, playing until his health prevented it. He was always a big fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Washington Redskins. He and Tyler spent time together watching the games on television.

Lonnie enjoyed spending time with his family. They attended all the school activities. They, along with extended family, traveled to attend baseball games, several times to St. Louis, Missouri to watch the Cardinals play. He also took a trip with his dad and his brother and family to the southwestern states and the Grand Canyon. He and Laura went to North Carolina to spend time with daughter, Beth and family. And, as recently as this past summer, Lonnie and Laura went to Mount Rushmore.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Kenneth & Jessie Williams and Myles and Opal Mark; in-laws, Don & Verna Fickes; and cousin, Deanna Kay McNeal.

He leaves behind his wife, Laura Williams of Leon; son, Tyler Williams of Ankeny, Iowa; stepson, Cody Stark of Brunsville, Iowa; stepdaughter, Elisabeth “Beth” Earnhardt and husband, Rick of Denver, North Carolina; granddaughter, Littie Earnhardt; parents, Gordon and Cleta Williams of Corydon, Iowa; brother, Les Williams of Corydon; brother-in-law, Ed Fickes and wife, Brenda of Van Wert, Iowa; sister-in-law, Dona Lammers and husband, Tim of Oelwein, Iowa; aunts and uncles, John and Glenda McNeal of Murray, Iowa, Jim and Betty Cool of Centerville, Iowa, Lowell Mark of Bethany, Missouri, Bob and Janice Schraft of Compton Hills, Illinois, and Lester and Patti Vandel of Leon; nieces and nephews, Corissa Williams, Bradley Williams, Josh Fickes, Dustin Fickes, Devin & Amber Fickes and daughter, Emma Fickes; cousins, Dan & Cheryl McNeal, Debra Duff, Dennis & Christy McNeal, Roy Lee Bunch, Kevin Cool, Kent & Jeanice Cool, Tim & Angie Cool, Tina & Mike Bauman, Aaron & Dawn Schraft, Blake & Gordana Schraft, Callie Schraft, Carrie Schraft, Lesley & Shad Cook; and other relatives and many friends.
