Obituary ~ Leota Maxine (Armstrong) Tuttle
February 12, 1928 ~ August 18, 2016

Leota Maxine Tuttle, age 88, of Lamoni, Iowa, was born to Clyde Leland and Chleo Lorene (Bumbarger) Armstrong, on February 12, 1928, near St. Charles, Iowa. She passed away on August 18, 2016, at her home.

Leota attended Broadhorn Country School until the sixth grade and then attended Truro Consolidated School, graduating from there in 1945. She attended Broadhorn Country Church and helped in the different churches where they lived, she was baptized in Winterset in 1949. She has been pianist at Calvary Baptist Church for several years. Besides being a farm wife, she worked at Snowden’s in Osceola, O’Bryan Brothers in Leon, and did some secretarial work.

She enjoyed the Farm Bureau work which she was chairman of the Milk Made Magic contest for many years. She looked forward to playing in the Farm Bureau Women’s Band at their many performances, and being in the plays they put on at district meetings. She liked to try new recipes and make cookies with her daughter, Nora.

She married Wendell Dean Tuttle on February 24, 1946, by Rev. Tom Foglesong in Winterset, Iowa. To them were born seven children, Philip Wayne, Peggy Elaine, Kenneth Gregory, Max Andrew, Barbara Irene, Nora Louise, and Sara Dot.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Wendell in 2013; two brothers, infant Cell Wesley Armstrong and Max Armstrong; infant sister, Tina Louise Armstrong; sons, Philip and Kenneth Tuttle; daughter, Sara; grandson, Patrick; and great granddaughter, Erica.

Survivors include her children, Max & Mary Tuttle of Corydon, Iowa, Peggy & Francis Moore of Waterloo, Iowa, Barbara Tuttle of Lamoni, Iowa, and Nora Tuttle of Creston, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Pat Tuttle of Waukee, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; sister, Betty Lou Walker and husband Bill of Summerfield, Florida; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2016, with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial will be in the Corydon Cemetery, Corydon, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to Gideons International in Leota’s memory.
