IRA MARKLEY was born in Union County, Ohio,
September 6, l873, and
departed this life at Leon, Ia. Friday,
November l3, l9l4.

When but a boy he moved with the family to
Lenox, Ia., and later to
Humeston, Ia., where he grew to manhood. On
December 28, l897 he was
married to MISS GERTRUDE FRANKLIN and they
lived happily together until
death separated them. He followed his father
in business at Humeston and
was proprietor of the hotel. About two years
ago he moved with his
family to Leon, Ia., and became proprietor of
the Leon Hotel in which
business he continued until his death.

As a business man, he was popular, not only
with the traveling public,
but in the city of Leon and wherever he was
known. He was a member of
the Masonic order at Humeston and not only
enjoyed and received, but
manifested the spirit of fraternalism toward
his fellowman. He was a
kind and an affectionate husband, as gentle
and tender as a father in
his love and affection toward his little
nephew, ALLEN HINES, whom he
and MRS. MARKLEY took to their own home in
his infancy. He loved his
home and family and sought to minister to
their need and comfort.

Besides many friends, he leaves to cherish
his memory, his loving
companion, MRS. MARKLEY, who faithfully
ministered to him in his
affliction; his sister, MRS. CLARA
BRINKERHOFF, of Chicago, Ill.; a
brother, ELMER MARKLEY, of Centerville, Ia.,
and his foster child, ALLEN
HINES.

Rev. B.F. Jacobs officiated at the funeral
services Sunday morning at
Leon and the Masonic Order of Humeston, was
in charge of the service at
the Humeston Cemetery.
