COPPERSMITH, BECK, EDWARDS, MCCONNELL

JOHN COPPERSMITH was born in the state of
Pennsylvania, January 5, l829;
died at the home of his daughter, MRS.
CHARLES BECK, in Decatur, Ia., of
heart failure on Saturday morning, October
3l, l9l4, aged 85 years, 9
months and 26 days.

He came to Jefferson County, Iowa, in the
early fifties, where he was
married to MRS. ELIZABETH EDWARDS in l859.
After their marriage they
removed to Decatur County, Iowa, and settled
on a farm near Maple Grove
Church. To this union four children were
born, three sons and one
daughter: ANDREW, who resides near Loup City,
Neb.; MRS. CHARLES BECK,
of Decatur; IRA, who died in Nebraska
November 20, l907; SAMUEL, who
died in infancy. MRS. ELIZABETH COPPERSMITH
died November 30, l885.

He was married to MRS. MARY MCCONNELL in
l888, after which he removed to
Nebraska where MRS. MARY COPPERSMITH died in
l908. After her death he
made his home with his children.

He was converted and united with the M.E.
Church in l859, to which faith
he consistently clung until the day of his
death. He having expressed
to his daughter his willingness to die and be
at rest. The funeral
services were held on Sunday morning November
l, at Maple Grove Church,
near his old home, by Rev. Scoggan, Pastor of
the Grand River M.E.
Church from these words, "For he looked for a
city which hath
foundations whose builder and maker is God,"
Heb. ll-l0. After which
the remains were tenderly laid to rest in Oak
Hill Cemetery.
