Robert John Mears, age 71, of Decatur, Iowa, the son of John and Helen (East) Mears, was born February 4, 1943 at Amoret, Missouri. He died at the Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa on Thursday, October 9, 2014.

Bob and his family lived in Missouri until age 5, then they moved to Kansas. He graduated from high school in Valley Center, Kansas. He then joined the United States Army and served over 13 years in several enlistments, serving from October 4, 1961 until November 25, 1974.

After his honorable discharge, Bob returned to Kansas. He drove truck, worked construction, and was a mechanic in his own garage. He then went back to school and obtained an associate degree in electronics. He became the customer service representative for Ryko Car Wash. He installed and did maintenance work in the United States, Korea, China, and South Africa. He retired in July of 2004.

Bob was married for a short time to Reyon from Turkey and was father to Helen. Later he married Joan, they were blessed with daughter Mandy. Joan preceeds him in death. In 1997, Bob married Jeanette “Jean” Darlene Fellman.

In his free time, Bob enjoyed fishing, mainly in rivers and lakes. He also hunted in earlier years. He was a member of the DAV, Disabled American Veterans.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife Joan Mears; and brother Clyde Mears. Survivors include his wife, Jean Mears of Decatur, Iowa; daughters, Helen Oyman of Turkey and Mandy Jarvis and husband Eric of Winfield, Kansas; stepchildren, Steve Young and wife Tiffany and Josh Young and wife Jennifer, all of Leon, Iowa, and Mary Myers and husband Brian of Ankeny, Iowa; grandchildren, Ashley and Lane Jarvis; step grandchildren, Megan, Jenna, and Adam Young and Colton Myers; brother, Francis; sisters, Reba and Dawn; and other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be held at a later time. Arrangements were though the Slade – O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa.
