Norman "Buzz" Main, age 70, of Moravia, Iowa, died Saturday, September 17, 2005, at his home northeast of Moravia. He was born on December 16, 1934 in Burley, Idaho to Raymond Ralph and Maymie "Marge" (Langer) Main. He received his education in the Ellston, Iowa Community Schools. In February of 1953, Norman joined the United States Marines and served during the Korean Conflict and was discharged in February 1961. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal and the UN Service Medal.

Norman farmed with his father for a time and ran a service station in Grand River, Iowa for 5 years before beginning his work with the Fred Carlson Construction Company out of Decorah, Iowa. He was a foreman when he retired in 1991 and began working for the City of Centerville in the Street Department. He later returned to Fred Carlson Company until his last retirement in 1999 when he completed more than 37 years of service. During his time with Fred Carlson Company he was the recipient of many paving awards. Norman still love to tend to his farm in Grand River, Iowa. On December 15, 1980, Norman was united in marriage to Marie McCloud in Salem, Missouri. He had a love for antique cars and his garden and the peaceful and serene country side where his home was.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by: his wife, Marie Main of Moravia; daughters, Lene and her husband, Gordon Thompson of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, Lynne Haynes of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Cindy and her husband, Kevin Waddingham of Macksburg, Iowa, Tena and her husband, Duane Smith of Woodburn, Iowa, Teresa Main of Chariton, Iowa, Terry Main of Grand River, Iowa, and Amanda Main of Centerville, Iowa; step-daughters, Stephanie and her husband, Tom Windust of Des Moines, Iowa and Jonica and her husband, Garret Paris of Hawkeye, Iowa; sisters, Eddice Munson of Reno, Nevada, Marlene Brown of Yakima, Washington and Barbara Wellbrock of Denver, Colorado; step-brothers, Steve and Frank Langer of Burley, Idaho; grandchildren, Crystal and Dusty Thompson, Andressa and LaLeesha Haynes, Mark McSorley, Jake and Amy Waddingham, Hilary and Holly Smith, Dustin Jessip, Christian Vairo, Hailey Jewell, Darrel and Ashley Grice, Anthony Windust, Aubrey and Branden Samuel, Brittney and Kimberly Paris.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at 1 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Geneva Parsons officiating with burial at the Hillcrest Cemetery south of Moravia, Iowa. Military Honors will be given by the Unionville American Legion. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 19, 2005 from 1 pm until 8 pm at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville with the family present from 6 till 8 pm at the funeral home.

Schmidt Family Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
