Death of R. J. LAWHORN

REUBEN J. LAWHORN died at his home in Eden township, Wednesday morning, Feb. 28th, aged 37 years, 11 months, and 23 days. He had been failing for some years, suffering with that insidious disease, consumption, and spent the winter of '81-82 in Florida with C. A. GILLHAM, returning somewhat improved in health and much encouraged. Although week and reduced in flesh he hoped to live until spring and go to Colorado, but his friends know too well that he hoped in vain, although he was never confined to his bed, having been at the table the day before and around the house till within a few hours before he died.

He was a native of Jo Daviess Co, Ill., and served through the war in Co. F, 17th, Illinois Cavalry, Col. BEVERAGE commanding, and the hardships endured were undoubtedly the cause of his disease. And application for pension is pending.

After the war closed he located in Missouri, and soon after in Eden township, where he has lived m of the most of the time since. In 1877 he was the Republican candidate for Sheriff of this county.

He was an honest man and few men in the county had more personal friends. He was buried by the Odd Fellows of Leon, being an active member of No. 84. The funeral was largely attended, the services being conducted at the M. E. church by Rev. J. F. ADAIR.

[Interment was made at Leon Cemetery.]
