DR. C. N. HYATT, a well known physician, died April 17, 1984 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center.

CHARLES NELSON HYATT was born May 25, ____ to Dr. CHARLES N. and INEZ MERCER HYATT in Albia, Iowa. Following internship at the Iowa Methodist Hospital he entered into private practice in Humeston. During World War II he served his country in the Pacific Theater as a medical officer. He then returned to private practice in Humeston. Later he served the Corydon and Elkader areas in completing 50 years as a practicing physician before retiring to Forsyth, Mo.

He was a “50 year” member of Iowa Medical Society and a member of AMA, AAFP and the Missouri State Medical Society. Eaton American Legion and the Humeston Masonic Lodge, later transferring his lodge membership to Elkader.

Survivors include his widow FLORENCE; sons CHARLES R. and wife CAROLYN of Fort Collins, Co.; JOHN D. and wife LINDA of Norfolk, Ne.; and WILLIAM N. and wife MARY JOE of Middletown, Ohio; step-daughter SONDRA RICHARD and husband DON of Humeston. Also surviving are a sister, MARGARET EWER of Iowa City, a niece, 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild.

A memorial scholarship fund is being established in his name at the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Contributions may be made through FLORENCE HYATT, Box 157, Forsyth, Mo. 65653

Words seem inadequate to express our feelings to all of those who helped share our pathway of sorrow. We are very thankful for friends and family who have helped to strengthen us and to ease our pain by their hospital visits, cards, phone calls, prayers, gifts of food, floral tributes, and memorial contributions to the libraries and to the University of Iowa medical scholarship fund which has been established in Dr. HYATT’s memory.

Thanks to RUTH R., MARJOIRE, and LILLIAN for showing up at the house, each one coming just at the right time. To PAT, DONNABELL, RUTH S. and LOUISE for taking food to the Leon Community Center and for preparing and serving our fellowship meal following the service. To JIM, LOIS, RICHARD and GAIL for their help and guidance and to Rev. MARCKS for his tribute to CHUCK’s life. All of you will always have a special place in our hearts.

Even though we will miss him very much and we have shed many tears, we still realize that what we are feeling is a selfish grief for he is at rest in our Father’s house and can no longer feel the pain and sorrow of those still on earth. Rev. MARCKS, in his service, used a quote which best reveals our thoughts, “Death is more like a comma than it is a period. It is a place on which we enter into our Father’s house of many mansions.”
