Katharin Marie Horn was born Feb. 6, 1896 in Nocona, Texas to Martha Louise (Mamie) Hansell Horn and Charles Augustus Horn, an died Jan. 9, 1979 in Leon, Iowa.

She attended school in Chickasha, Indian Territory (later Oklahoma) and graduated from Leon High School in 1914. After a year at Simpson College she taught primary at McAllister rural school, LeRoy and Leon.

She married a Leon attorney, George Frederic Hoffman in 1921. They had three children: Mamie Nell Viner, George Frederic Hoffman II and Katharin Sue Dixon, all of Leon.

Following Frederic’s death in 1940, she returned to primary teaching. In 1954 she married Chester Bentz and moved to Fairfield, Iowa, but 3 ½ months later he died. Kitten returned to Leon where she taught second grade until retirement in 1961, after 29 years of teaching. She received a B. S. in science from Drake University in 1959.

She was a member of Leon United Methodist Church, P. E. O., B. P. W., Retired Teachers, American Legion Auxiliary, and Thirteen Club.

Preceded in death by grandson, Glenn Byron Dixon; four brothers: Charles Hansell Horn, Frank Noble Horn, Thomas Suggs Horn and Myron Hamilton Horn.

Survivors other that children: 8 grandchildren: Thomas Frederic Viner, John Phillip Viner, George Frederic Hoffman III, Michael Andrew Hoffman and Todd Eric Hoffman, Martha Ellen Viner Hill, Mary Leal Viner Johnson and Katharin Ann Dixon; 5 great grandchildren: Benjamin David Hill and Joshua Thomas Hill, Himena Christine Viner and Nellie Lynn Viner and Cady Lea Johnson; other relatives former students and friends.

[Interment was made at Leon Cemetery.]
