Decatur County Journal 25
Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
Thursday, October 15, 1890

DIED -- October 11, 1890, at 6:20 a.m. of typhoid fever, PAYTON OLIVER HULL, aged 16 years, 7 months and 6 days, son of MR. and MRS. CHARLES HULL, of this township. PAYTON was a bright, intelligent and industrious boy, just budding into manhood. He was kind, social and winsome with all that came in contact with him. His many young associates will often miss him and he leaves not an enemy, but all that knew him regret his departure. His illness lasted nearly four weeks, but he bore it bravely to the last. All was done for him that careful and loving hands could do, but to no avail. And when his life departed he looked as one just sinking into a quiet, sweet sleep.

The funeral service took place at the M.E. Church, REV. J.H. HARD, of Garden Grove, officiating. He delivered a beautiful discourse from the text, "If a man die shall he live again." - Job XIV-14. After the services the body was borne to our beautiful [Leon] cemetery and laid to rest. Six of his young friends were selected as pall bearers. The immense number of friends that were in attendance was a token of universal respect and sympathy felt for the sorrow stricken family.

MR. and MRS. HULL and family extend their sincere thanks to the many friends who so kindly assisted them in their late sickness and bereavement.
