Ward A. Hines, age 84, of Pickerington, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 14, 2009. Born in Makanda, Ill., to Louis and Gladys Hines, both deceased.

He is survived by beloved wife, Margaret Grace; and children, Harry L. (Nina) Hines and Heather H. (Dave) Cachat; and grandchildren, Kira, Clayton, Wyatt Hines and Allen Cachat. A 1942 graduate of Garden Grove High School (Iowa), he went directly into the Navy and was assigned to the Navy Armed Guard. His World War II service record includes action in three theaters of war, Commendation for Bravery, and part of the occupation forces to Japanese territory. He spent eight months in Russia as part of what later became know as "the forgotten convoy."
