Obituary ~ Elizabeth (Osborn) Hensley
September 09, 1819 ~ January 11, 1899

Decatur County Journal
Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
January, 1899

At her home in Franklin township, Decatur county, Iowa, on Wednesday, January 11, 1899, occurred the death from la grippe of Mrs. ELIZABETH HENSLEY, aged nearly 80 years, widow of WM. K. HENSLEY, who died in June [28th] last. With her husband came from Indiana in the fall of 1853 and settled on the homestead where they both died.

Mrs. HENSLEY, a native of Virginia, was the mother of eight children, one of whom died in infancy. A daughter, Mrs. RHODA DANIELS, wife of T. B. DANIELS, of Garden Grove, died some months ago [August 2, 1898]. The other children are all living, with the possible exception of a son, MARTIN, who went west many years ago and from whom no word has since been received.

Mrs. HENSLEY was a woman of excellent qualities and great industry. She was well known throughout the section of country where she resided for her kindly disposition and motherly attributes. Presiding for so many years over a home known to all for its kindly cheer and hospitality she will be greatly missed.

It is sad to note that among the residents of the populous neighborhood where she resided there is scarcely one left of those who were neighbors of Mr. and Mrs. HENSLEY in their younger days, so great has been the inroads (?) of the grim monster.

Funeral services were held at the residences Saturday morning at 11 o’clock and interment made in the Winters graveyard.
