RICHARD DOYLE HIGDON, son of OTHO and ANN (FRISBIE) HIGDON, was born Aug. 6, 1924 in Mercer County, Mo. and died at the Decatur County Hospital, Leon, Iowa May 7, 1985.

At the age of two he moved with his family to an acreage in Leon, where he attended school through the ninth grade. He returned with his family in 1939 to the farm home south of Pleasanton. He attended the last three years of high school and graduated from Princeton, Mo. in 1942.

He worked his way through Coyne Electric School in Chicago by working in a steel mill in that area before being inducted into the Army in 1944, during World War II, where he served in the Aleutian Islands. Upon discharge form service in 1946, he started working for Iowa Southern Utilities in Leon where he worked for 28 years – starting as an electrician and retiring as area manager in 1974 to spend more time on his farm operation. His most enjoy pastimes were fishing, card playing, wood cutting, and his cattle.

He served as president of the Rotary Club, Chamber of Commerce, and was active in the industrial Development Committee.

He was married to GERTRUDE LIVESEY on April 29, 1950. To his 35 year union, four children were born.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, DALE and GERALD.

Surviving him are his widow, GERTRUDE, daughter, PEGGY FROST and husband, MIKE, Leon; son JIM and wife TERRIE, Lodoga, In.; daughter, CAROLYN GARLOCK and husband, CHUCK, Lodoga, In.; son DAIVD and wife, SANDY, Leon; five grandchildren and two step-grandchildren; sister EVELYN SCOTT and husband, KENNETH, Leon; brother EDUMAND and wife, JEAN Princeton, Mo., sister-in-law, LOIS HIDGON, Leon; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

[Interment was made at Leon Cemetery.]
