Obituary ~ Twyla Avanell Harden
October 14, 1913 ~ August 11, 1985

Leon Journal-Reporter
Leon, Decatur County, Iowa
August, 1985

TWYLA HARDEN, age 71, 9 months, 28 days, died August 11, 1985

She was born in the year of 1913 on October 14th, on a Missouri Farm.

They named the baby TWYLA,
Miss EDITH gave the name.
Miss EDITH was our country school teacher
And that is how it came.
TWYLA was the youngest baby of a family of nine.
And you can imagine we all treasured her
and thought she was mighty fine.

Death almost claimed our sister though
When she was still a babe,
But God in his infinite love and care
Raised her up and her life and save.

After moving to Iowa in March 1914.
TWYLA grew to womanhood and a beautiful life did live
A faithful church member and lodge member too
And always much to the poor she did give.
She finished a course in commercial school
After graduating from Leon High.

This course she did finish in about half the time
That was required, thus the time soon went by.
She has been employed at the bank here in town
And at the courthouse too
And faithfully worked at two nursing homes here
Working long and hard many nights through.
But now she has came to the end of her life
And laid down her burdens and cares
And sweetly slipped way to her heavenly home.

In answer to hers and our prayers
The words of her heart were spoken to us
Just shortly before she left
“I’m ready to meet the Lord” she said
Now she rests with that rock of ages for her cleft.
She leaves on earth a host of friends.
And relatives not a few!
Namely, four brothrs; ELDON, ONIA, HAROLD and ELMER
And one sister, ROSA, too.

Many nieces and nephews and dear neighbors are left
With their lives yet to finish here on earth.
Oh, let us be ready our maker to meet
Not short of a brand new birth (John 3:1-7)
TWYLA’s two sister, IMOGENE and EUNICE
And her brother HOWARD we know,
Have gone on before her to their heavenly home
And her Mother and Dad thus so.

So now as we lay our TWLYA
Neath the earth that our God hath made
Let us hope for each one that none shall be lost
When all in the balance are weighed.

[Interment was made at Leon Cemetery.]
