Dale Halferty, 59, former Chariton resident, passed away at 8:13 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at the Newtown Christian Church in Newtown, Missouri. A visitation was held at 1 p.m. until the services time at the church. Burial was in the Center Grove Cemetery, near Newtown.

Memorial donations are suggested, in lieu of flowers, to Mic Halferty for an education fund and may be left with or mailed to the Payne Funeral Home of Galt.

Dale Halferty was born January 11, 1953 in Chariton, Iowa to Glenn and Dorothy Finch Halferty. He attended school in Chariton and graduated from high school in Bloomfield, Iowa. After receiving a Bachelor degree from Northwest Missouri State, he received his Masters in Education from Graceland University.

Dale worked many jobs over his lifetime, including being a city cop, railroader, mechanic, truck driver and teacher.

Other than being with his family, Dale enjoyed working on anything with wheels. He especially enjoyed his Harley-Davidson and going to the Sturgis Bike Rally.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Nancy, of Lamoni, Iowa; son, Michael of Lamoni; daughters, Andrea Kuhn and her husband Bryan of Columbia, Missouri; Annie Meyers of Quincy, Illinois; Abby Hamrick and her husband Scot of New Boston, Va.; four step children, Matt Langhus and his wife Tanya of Smithville, Missouri; Judd Tucker an his wife Jessica of Kansas City, Missouri; Adam Tucker and his wife Kiley of Kansas City, Missouri; Amanda Neff and her husband Aron of Milan, Missouri and 14 grandchildren.

Those preceding him in death include his parents and a sister, Wilma Halferty.
