OLA MAY, daughter of JAMES HENRY and ELIZABETH NEWCOMER PITMAN, was born Oct. 4, 1885 near Leon, Iowa, and died April 3, 1978 at Westview Acres, Leon, Iowa, age 92 years, 5 months and 29 days.

Most of her life was spent in Decatur County. She attended the Leon School.

OLA was united in marriage to DON KEITH HACKER Dec. 29, 1909 at Leon. To this union were born five children.

She belonged to the Methodist Church at Weldon and was active in church work and clubs in Weldon.

Preceding her in death were parents; husband; two sisters, IDA and CLARA VIOLA PITMAN; three brothers GEORGE, FRED and HARVE PITMAN; 2 half-brothers, CLAIR and WILBUR PITMAN; and one great grandson, JOSEPH DEAN MCCULLOUGH.

Survivors include five children; JOHN HACKER and wife THELMA, Osceola; KEITH HACKER and wife ELLEN, Weldon; LOUISE HEIN and husband HENRY, Panora, Iowa; MABEL FIERCE and husband RUSSELL, Leon; and MARY BUTCHER and husband LEON, Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 2 great, great grandchildren; and friends.

Funeral services were conducted from Slade Funeral Home on Thursday, April 6, 1978, at 2:00 p.m., conducted by the Rev. Ivan C. Bys. Organist Teresa E. Tullis and vocalist Bud Hook provided musical selections "Just A Closer Walk With Thee" and "Beyond the Sunset." Casket bearers were Ola's grandsons: Edward Donahue, Dennis Fierce, Larry Gegner (husband of Kay Hacker Gegner), Jerald Heaberlin, Glenn Hein, Rick Joseph, Louis McCullough (husband of Karen Hacker McCullough) and Loren Stuvick.

Interment was made at Van Wert Cemetery.

The Slade Funeral Home of Leon was in charge of arrangements.
