Clarence Veigh Griffin, age 99, of Leon, Iowa, was born in Missouri, south of Pleasanton, Iowa, on February 4, 1916, to Samuel Albert and Rosa Belle (Smith) Griffin. He died at Westview Acres in Leon on Saturday, March 7, 2015.

Clarence attended Willis Country School, which was located one eighth of a mile from his childhood home. On January 3, 1938, he married Gladys Marie Clark. To this union, two children were born, Vivian Marie and James Russell. The couple was married 58 years and farmed together on farms north of Pleasanton. Gladys preceded him in death in 1996; a few years later he moved to Leon.

In 1954, Clarence began to study the Bible with Jehovah's Witnesses and was later baptized. He took his beliefs very seriously and strived to live his life in accordance with them. He greatly treasured the meetings at the Kingdom Hall that he attended and participated in each week.

Those that preceded him in death, in addition to his wife, were his daughter, Vivian Baker in 1996; and all of his seven siblings, Levi Griffin, Maurice Griffin, Wilma Helton, Mildred Zimmerman, Ida Reed, and Mabel Henrichs, and infant brother.

Clarence enjoyed farm life, gardening, and reading. Clarence's mind was sharp up until the time of his death and he enjoyed reminiscing with family and friends. Those that survived him are his son, James Griffin and wife Brenda of Leon; grandchildren, William and Sandy Baker of Leon, Iowa, John and Joy Baker of Chicago, Illinois, Angelia and Mark Stewart of Corydon, Iowa, Amanda Suazo of West Des Moines, Iowa, and Amber and Marco Suazo of Leon, Iowa; seven great grandchildren, Laticia and Caleb Stewart, James, Edwin, and Joel Suazo, and Julisa and Jadira Suazo; and other relatives and a host of friends.

Memorial services were held at Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home, on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at 10 a.m., with Joseph Richardson officiating.

Interment will be at Hamilton Cemetery, Pleasanton, Iowa.
