Obituary ~ Jonathan R. Conrey
April 25, 1856 ~ June 02, 1929

Jonathan R. Conrey was born April 25, 1856 at Bloomfield, Illinois, and died June 2, 1929 at Leon.

Jonathan's parents were John Riley Conrey and Caroline Gordon. His mother died when he was young and when he was thirteen he came to Leon to live with with Mr. and Mrs. L. N. Clark.

He was united in marriage to Miss Mellie Dye. To this union five children were born: Fred L. Conrey, Cheyanne, Wyo,; Oakley T. Conrey, New Orleans, La.; Mrs. Ethel Billings, Ashland, Ore.; Mrs. Ruth Evans, Leon, Ia. One son, Loyd preceded his father in death.

Mr. Conrey was made a Mason October 10, 1884. His associates in the lodge had charge of the burial service.

He was engaged in business in Leon in various capacities from the time he was 20 until health forced him to retire about fifteen years ago.

He served as postmaster during the administration President Cleveland. His relationship in every phase of community life were always of unquestioned integrity and honorable.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist church June 5, 1929 and he was laid to rest in the Leon cemetery, the beautiful and impressive ceremony of the Masonic lodge being used.
