Donald E. Pierce, 72, of 980 S.E. 55th St. [Des Moines], died of cancer Friday at Des Moines General Hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, with burial at Garden Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Pierce was born in Des Moines and lived here most of his life. He was a retired carpenter and an Army veteran of World War II.

Survivors include a daughter, Jackie Davis of Arlington, Texas; two sons, Gene of Des Moines and Jim of Arlington; two sisters, Ila Pinegar of San Diego and Beulah Carlson of Seattle; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. today at the funeral home.
