Leon, Decatur County, IowaRalph Marvin Pickering, son of Franklin Jerome and Martha Alma Marvin Pickering, was born Feb. 3, 1896 in Leon, Iowa, and died Jan. 26, 1979 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, age 82.
He was married to Lois O. Richard April 12, 1916. To this union one son, Richard, was born.
Ralph worked as an accountant at the Armour Plant in Leon. From 1935 through 1937 he commuted to Des Moines where he was employed by the W. P. A. He and family moved to Ottumwa in 1937 and back to Leon in 1941. In 1943, they moved to Bloomfield, Ind., to Newton, Iowa in 1945, and then to Burlington, Iowa, where he was a Housing Manager for the Federal Public Housing Authority. In 1962, he retired and in 1977 moved to Cedar Rapids.
Ralph had been a member of the Knights of Pythias in Leon.
He was preceded in death by parents and brother Raymond.
Survivors are widow Lois; son Richard and wife Betty; two grandchildren, Barbara and Christopher, all of Cedar Rapids; sister Thelma Black, Leon; brother, Roy, Winterset, Iowa; and Clifford, Columbia, Mo.; other relatives and friends.
