Obituary ~ John Curtis Parsons
July 11, 1854 ~ August 13, 1923

John Curtis Parsons was born in Pickaway County, Iowa on July 11, 1854 and was killed in an accident near Garden Grove, Iowa on August 13, 1923. His age was 69 years, one month and 2 days.

His parents were Thomas Wesley Parsons and Emaline Timmons Parsons He was married to Sarah Lydia Holland the daughter of Mandrew Irmandra Holland and Lovica Jane Goodenow Holland, then of High Point, Iowa in 1887.

To this union were born ten children, six girls and four boys. Roy Parsons, Etta Parsons Rain, Verna A. Parsons Manchester, Mary Thompson, Ora Parsons Hill, Alfred Lee Parsons, Thomas J., Leila Parsons Blanchard, Ollie Parsons Watson and Oscar Earl Parsons.

Mr. Parsons has lived in this community for a generation and is widely known throughout Decatur County. His vocation was that of a farmer, living at the time of his death about three and a half miles southwest of Garden Grove. He was generally respected as a good neighbor in his community and also had the reputation of being a most reliable workman and a man upon whom confidence, trust and dependence could be placed. His sad death will be regretted by many friends and relatives in this section as well as by his surviving wife and children.

The funeral was held at the M.E. Church conducted by Rev. Andrew and the body laid to rest in the Garden Grove Cemetery.
