Clarence Abrum Knowles, age 81 of Garden Grove, Iowa, the son of Wilbur Garfield and Katie May (Sage) Knowles, was born March 27, 1925 at Mahnomen, Minnesota. He died at his rural Garden Grove home on Thursday, December 28, 2006.

Clarence served in the United States Army from October 25, 1944 until July 31, 1946 where he was stationed in Italy.

On June 1, 1948 Clarence married Marie Genevieve Palmer in Des Moines, Iowa. four children, Pam, Sue Anne, Mary, and Dale, blessed this union. The Family lived in Des Moines where Clarence was the foreman of the forestry division for the City of Des Moines. He worked there 35 years. After retiring in April 1987, Clarence and Marie lived in a RV and traveled the united States. In September 1999 they settled down on an acreage outside of Garden Grove, Iowa.

Clarence enjoyed woodworking, woodcarving, and nature and bird watching. Lately, he was making birdhouses. He was an avid reader and enjoyed Louise L'Amour western books the most.

Preceding him in death were his parents; brother Wilbur Knowles; and sisters Edith Nelson and Zelma Cobb.

Survivors include his wife Marie Knowles of Garden Grove; children: Pam Monahan and husband Steven of Pella, Iowa; Sue Anne Van Gundy and husband Bill of Des Moines; and Dale Knowles an wife Kim of Belton, Missouri; seven grandchildren: six great grandchildren; brothers: Ed Knowles of Mahnomen, MN; Harold Knowles and Laverne of Hibbing, MN; Lawrence Knowles and Sena of Mahnomen; Dan Knowles and Doris of Magnolia, TX; Ralph Knowles and Elizabeth of Spring Lake Park, MN; sister Ethel Gullingsrud of Mahnomen; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

[Interment was made at Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove, Iowa.]
