Obituary ~ Barbara Marie "Barb" (Perkins) Onyett
August 05, 1952 - February 28, 2015

Barbara Marie Onyett, age 62, was called home on the 28th of February 2015. She left his world surrounded by her family and friends at her home in Leon, Iowa after loosing her battle with breast cancer. Barb was born in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Marvin Lee and Mary Jane (Turck) Perkins.

Barb started kindergarten in Rodman, Iowa, then went to Grand Valley School in Grand River, Iowa through her sophomore year. She finished her high school career at Central Decatur High School in Leon, Iowa. While in school, Barb played basketball and softball, and participated in track.

Barb married Charles "Chuck" LeRoy Onyett on June 24, 1979.

She loved spending time with her family; she loved going to the reunions and connecting with everyone all over again. Family has always been an important part of her life. As her children were growing up there was plenty of nights spent playing games and watching movies with Chuck, Tammy, and Charliena.

Barb enjoyed fishing, going to the casino, going to auctions, and riding ATV's and the gator with the grandkids. She also enjoyed working down at the lot, watching her grandkids play sports, and spending time with her beloved dog, Dizel, as well as driving her Jag.

Barb worked for Electronic Engineering in Des Moines, Iowa for 18 years, O'Bryan Brothers in Leon for four years, Procom at Lamoni, Iowa for 20 years, and H&R Block in Leon until the end of her life.

Preceding Barb in death were her grandparents, father, Marvin Perkins, Sr., and brothers, Clarke Perkins and Marvin "Butch" Perkins, Jr. Barb is survived by her husband, Chuck Onyett of Leon; daughters, Tammy Edwards and Rusty and Charliena Onyett-Carter and Chris, all of Leon; mother, Mary Lovell of Lamoni; brother, Tom Perkins and Linda of Lamoni; sisters, Patricia Garelick of Augusta, Georgia, Carla Hill and Jay of Pleasant Hill, Iowa, Shelly Perkins and Jodi Perkins, both of Des Moines, and Kelly Tigges and Merle of Fenton, Iowa; stepsisters, DeeAnn Green and Steve of Urbandale, Iowa and Janice Runge Dunedan of Florida; sister-in-law, Trudy Schoonover of Kellerton, Iowa; five grandchildren, Tyson, Tiana, Seth, Gracyn, and Camdon; as well as numerous other family members and loved ones.

She made sure to share her cancer story with people she met along the way. Even the people she met in the doctor offices, she shared her story trying to give them hope that they too could beat this terrible disease. Barb's energy and enthusiasm had an impact on everyone she met. She had that special spark. Her loving spirit will continue to live on in everyone who knew her.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Brendan's Catholic Church in Leon, Iowa at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 5, 2015. Visitation is Wednesday, March 4, at Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon. A memorial fund has been established by the Family.
