Obituary ~ Kenneth Gene Swigart
February 22, 1925 - February 25, 2015

Kenneth Gene Swigart, age 90, of Adrian, Missouri formerly Lamoni, Iowa, the son of John Samuel and Mary Olive (Harlan) Swigart, was born February 22, 1925, at Eagleville, Missouri. He died at the Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri on Wednesday, February 25, 2015.

Kenneth attended Lamoni High School. On September 21, 1943, Kenneth was inducted into the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged on January 27, 1946, as an Aviation Boatswain's Mate Third Class.

On November 29, 1943, Kenneth was united in marriage to Maxine Merle Trammell. They were blessed with six children, Nancy, Rebecca, Steven, twins Edward and Deborah, and Cynthia. Kenneth and Maxine worked together farming and raising their children south of Bedford, Iowa for 15 years. In 1964, the family moved to their farm west of Lamoni. Over the years, besides farming, Kenneth also did construction and concrete work. Maxine died on July 17, 1998. In his free time, Kenneth enjoyed fishing and hunting, church activities, and helping his friends and neighbors. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a Mustache Club.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, twin siblings, wives, Maxine Swigart and Margie Swigart, and daughter, Nancy Teel on June 12, 2010. Survivors include his children, Becky McDowell of Belton, Missouri, Steve Swigart and wife Mary Lou of Altamont, Missouri, Ed Swigart and wife Lisa of Archie, Missouri, Debbie Wilson Otto and husband Bill of Belton, and Cindy Breshears and husband Alan of Cameron, Missouri; son-in-law, Darrell Teel of Pattonsburg, Missouri; 27 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren; 15 great, great grandchildren; sister, Kathryn Rummells and husband Gene of Evening Shade, Arkansas; step brothers, Kenneth Harlan and Seth Harlan and step sisters, Ida June Huntsman and Phyllis Davis, all of Arkansas; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be at the Lamoni First Baptist Church at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 28, 2015, with Chaplain Assistant Sergeant Charles Wilson officiating. Visitation is Saturday at the church beginning at 9:30 a.m. until service time. Arrangements were through the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa. Memorials may be given to the Lamoni First Baptist Church in Kenneth's memory.
