Obituary ~ Kathleen Amelia "Kate" (McGraw) Burchett
April 07, 1928 ~ May 16, 2013

Kathleen Burchett, 85, of Grand River and Osceola, died May 16, 2013, at Clarke County Hospital in Osceola.

Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand River. The Rev. Thomas Dooley officiated. Burial was in Grand River Cemetery. Prayer services were 6:30 p.m. Monday at Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Deacon Reinhold Kunze officiating. Memorials may be given to Grand River Community Center or Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Kathleen “Kate” Amelia Burchett, daughter of Alice Ellen (Owens) and Harry Raymond McGraw, was born April 7, 1928, in Grand River.

Kate grew up in Westerville. She attended Westerville Country School and graduated from Grand River High School in 1945.

After graduation, Kate lived in Des Moines and worked at Bankers Life.

On Nov. 1, 1947, Kate married Robert “Bob” Adrian Burchett at Saint Brendan’s Catholic Church Rectory in Leon. They made their home in rural Grand River on a farm in Clarke County.

Kate was a farmer and homemaker.

Kate was a lifelong member of Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Grand River.

In November 1996, Bob and Kate moved from the farm to Osceola, where they attended Saint Bernard’s Catholic Church.

Kate volunteered for any community need in Grand River and Osceola. Kate was a volunteer at the Clarke County Hospital gift shop.

Kate is survived by her husband Bob Burchett of Osceola; daughter Lynda Burchett (husband Patrick Robertson) of Houston, Texas; sisters, Ramadean (husband Joe) Shields of Grand River and Fran (husband Bill) Stephenson of Princeton, N.J.; four nephews, three nieces and their families; cousin Kay Minnick; friends, Ron and JoAnn Boles of Grand River; and grandparent to the Boles’ children, Alan and Jenni, and great-grandparents to their children.

Kate was preceded in death by her parents; sister Marilyn Boyd; parents-in-law, Roy and Merle Burchett; and brother- and sister-in-law, Ed and Carmelita Burchett.
