Obituary ~ Gayle Elaine (Carns) Burchett
March 31, 1925 ~ February 06, 2008

Gayle Elaine BURCHETT, 82, of Mount Ayr, daughter of Francis and Lucille CARNS, was born March 31, 1925, in Adams County and died Feb. 6, 2008, at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr.

Gayle graduated from Murray High School in Murray. She married Wayne BURCHETT on July 18, 1942. Two daughters were born to this union, Anne and Cathy. The family made their home on a Century Farm near Grand River and Gayle was a homemaker. For many years, Gayle was a girls’ 4-H leader in Decatur County for the Richland Ridge Runners.

Gayle has made her home in Mount Ayr since 1999.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne BURCHETT, daughter Cathy McCABE and brothers, Max and Dick CARNS.

Survivors include her daughter, Anne BARTON and husband Lester of Chandler, Ariz.; son-in-law Michael McCABE of Gilbert, Ariz.; four grandsons, Kenneth BARTON and wife Julie of Gilbert, Jacob BARTON of Chandler, Doug McCABE and wife Alexis of Seattle, Wash., and Drew McCABE and wife Amy of Seattle; six great-grandchildren, Megan, Amy, Jason, Ava, Kate and Alexander; sister Jeanne MATTHES of Spokane, Wash.; and brother, Merrill CARNS and wife Joy of Osceola.

Funeral services were Feb. 11, 2008, at the Church of Christ in Murray, with Pastor Brian McCRACKEN officiating. Burial was in the Grand River Cemetery in Grand River. Arrangements were through Slade-O’Donnell Funeral Home of Leon.

Memorials may be given to the Chandler Education Fund, established in memory of Gayle’s daughter Cathy.
