February 7, 1948 ~ October 11, 2014Karon Diana Frank, age 66, of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Franklin Laurel “Bus” and Otha Mae (Ricks) Whetro, was born in Kunkle, Ohio on February 7, 1948. She died at the Lamoni Nursing and Rehab Center in Lamoni, Iowa on Saturday, October 11, 2014.
Karon grew up in Kunkle, Ohio and graduated from North Central Local Schools near Pioneer, Ohio. She then started working at Ohio Art, a factory where Etch-A-Sketch is made. On February 14, 1970, she was united in marriage to Lester Wayne Frank. They made their home in Stryker, Ohio. They were blessed with two sons, Jason and Joel. In 1976, Lester was killed in a car accident. Karon moved her family to Bryan, Ohio, where she raised her sons and attended school at Northwest State Community College. She attained a nursing degree and spent her career working at hospitals, doing private nursing, and at nursing homes. In 2006, she retired and moved to Leon, Iowa.
Karon enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters, attending Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, and her flowers outside her apartment. Last July she enjoyed a trip back to a favorite place, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Lester Frank; brother Hal Whetro; and an infant sister. Survivors include her children, Jason and Kim Frank of Marion, Ohio and Joel Frank of Davis City, Iowa; granddaughters, Lauren and Mara Frank of Marion and Adeline “Addy”, Maggie, and Jessalyn of Davis City; sister Jeanne Ely and husband Chet of Florida; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leon, Iowa at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2014, with Pastor J.R. Wheeler officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Arrangements were through the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home of Leon and Lamoni, Iowa.
