Obituary ~ Sharon Louise (Young) DeLong
April 16, 1946 ~ October 27, 2014

Sharon Louise DeLong, age 68 of Ravenwood, Missouri, formerly of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Gene Dale and Doris Louise (Betz) Young, was born April 16, 1946, in Harrison County, Missouri. She died at the Village Care Center in Maryville, Missouri on Monday, October 27, 2014.

Sharon graduated from high school in Eagleville, Missouri in 1965. On December 17, 1965, she married Garland Keith DeLong. They were blessed with five children, Susan, David, Dale, Gary, and Ronoka. The couple divorced in 1977; Sharon raised her children alone. She worked as a nurse’s aide at Westview before starting work at the Decatur County Hospital in the late 1970’s. She met and fell in love with Pete Lewis, so following her retirement in 2002, Sharon moved to Ravenwood, Missouri to be with him. She enjoyed crocheting and together they enjoyed dancing, working on the farm, and traveling.

Sharon took her family to Calvary Baptist Church, later she attended Trinity Christian Church.

Preceding her in death were her dad and brother, Larry Young.

Survivors include her companion of 16 years, Pete Lewis, of Ravenwood; five children, Susie Vanderflute and husband Randy of Leon, Iowa, David DeLong and wife Dawn of Warroad, Minnesota, Dale DeLong of Lamoni, Iowa, Gary DeLong of Eagleville, Missouri, and Ronoka Schaff and husband Jack of Osceola, Iowa; 12 grandchildren and two step grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; mother, Doris Harris of Rockford, Illinois; two sisters, Linda LaBonne of Rockford and Carol Sue St. Vincent and husband Bob of Roscoe, Illinois; nieces and nephew; and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at the Lamoni Community of Christ Church at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 20, 2014 with Elders Garry Henderson and Stuart Silver officiating. Burial will be in the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the Family.

Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangments.
