Obituary ~ Dannie Lee Cherington
February 14, 1920 ~ June 25, 2002

Dannie Lee Cherington, son of Floyd Lyle and Edna Pauline Diehl Cherington, was born Feb. 14, 1920, at Orient and died at his home in Osceola on June 25, 2002. He was 82.

He received his education in the rural Clarke County schools and from Murray High School. He was married to Lali Noreen Smith on March 10, 1940, in Princeton, Mo. They became the parents of two children, Gayla and Floyd.

Mr. and Mrs. Cherington lived most of their married life near Garden Grove in Decatur County where they farmed from 1942 to 1987. After the couple retired in 1987 they moved to Osceola where they have lived for the past 15 years. Mr. Cherington attended the Methodist Church in Garden Grove, High Point and most recently in Osceola.

He was an avid collector of watches and silver dollars.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his only brother, Allison Cherington.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Gayla Shay of Loveland, Colo.; a son, Floyd Cherington and his wife, Beverly Cherington, of Carrollton, Texas; five grandchildren, Rocinda Green and Rochelle Cochran and her husband, Jeremy Cochran, all of Loveland, Colo., Rolanda Redman of Weldon, Stacy Cherington and his wife, Lynette Cherington, of Houston, Texas and Jodie Bloys of Austin, Texas; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandson; a sister, Jean Ramsey of Osceola; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Cherington were held June 29 at Kale Funeral Home in Osceola, the Rev. Neville Clayton and the Rev. James Louk, both of Osceola, officiating.

Casket bearers were Stacy Cherington, Marvin Ellis Jr., Randy Cherington, Joshua Snook, Kevin Cline and Phil Clarke. Honorary bearers were Rocinda Green, Rolanda Redman, Rochele Cochran, Lynette Cherington, Jodie Bloys, Paula Jo Green, Kelli Green, Jacob Snook, Joseph Snook, Alexander James Nevins-Snook, Jeremy Cochran, Jordan Cochran, Erin Cochran, Kathryn Grace Cherington, Emily Faith Cherington, Garrett Bloys, Alyssa Bloys and Nathan Bloys.

Interment was in Maple Hill Cemetery with arrangements by Kale Funeral Home of Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to Green Valley Hospice in Creston.
