Obituary ~ Kenneth Hartvig Bolie
July 19, 1921 ~ October 29, 2007

Kenneth Hartvig Bolie, 86, of Lamoni, passed away Monday, October 29, 2007, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines. Per his wishes, Ken was cremated. A Celebration of Life memorial was held on Saturday November 3, 2007 at the Crown Colony Retirement Center in Lamoni. Kenneth’s cremains will be interred in the National Veteran’s Cemetery in Van Meter, IA following its opening in 2008. The Cremation Society of Eastern-Central-Western Iowa assisted with arrangements.

Kenneth was born July 19, 1921 Silverton, OR to Christian and Ruth Bolie. He served in the United States Army in the European theater of WWII participating in D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a truck driver for the 82nd Airborne Division. His military service was a source of pride throughout his life and was one reason for his deep love of his country.

On February 17, 1949 he married Sadie Rose Bishop in Mallard, IA. Kenneth and Rose did almost everything together. They farmed at Burt, Mallard, and Woodbine, IA before moving to Lamoni, IA in 2000.

Throughout his life he was an active member of the Community of Christ (formerly RLDS Church).

He loved his family and especially family dinners, and stayed in touch with his brothers and sisters throughout their lives.

Survivors include his wife Rose; two sons, Steve and wife Mavis Bolie of Clive, IA and Alan Bolie of Council Bluffs; daughter Kathy Bolie also of Council Bluffs; two granddaughters, Karen and husband Marty English and Sarah and husband Tim Copple; three great-grandsons, Emory and Avory English and Ryne Copple; and two brothers, Victor Wayne Bolie of Albuquerque, NM and Paul Bolie of Brea, CA.

His parents, four brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

A memorial fund has been established at Crown Colony Retirement Center.
