Obituary ~ Eugene Samuel Briner
Augugst 19, 1935 ~ December 29, 2014

Eugene Samuel Briner, age 79, passed away December 29, 2014, at his Grand River, Iowa home. He was born August 19, 1935, in Decatur County, Iowa to Lloyd Raymond and Wilma Bernice (Houser) Briner.

He graduated from Grand River Independent High School and then enlisted into the United States Army, 6th Armored Division, out of Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. He served as an MP in the Korean War and met his future wife, Jo Anne, while on leave in Seattle, Washington. They were married 39 years until Jo Anne's death in 1996. Eugene married Linda Loftstedt in 1998; they were married 12 years until her death in 2010.

Eugene spent the majority of his career working for Dunn Lumber in Seattle. He was an active member of the B.P.O.E. Lodge #827 of Ballard, Washington. He was past exalted ruler of the Ballard Elks and continued his support of the Elks until his death. Eugene retired in 2001, moved back to Grand River, Iowa and became active in city government, serving both as a member of the city council and mayor of Grand River.

Eugene was beloved father of Darren E. Briner and wife Mary, and grandfather to Joseph and Jacob Briner, all of Lynnwood, Washington, and brother of Jack Briner of Lamoni, Iowa. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends in Washington State and in Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Lavone Binning.

A gathering to celebrate Eugene's life will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 1:30 pm at the Grand River Community Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Grand River First Responders. Eugene was loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Memorial services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. at Grand River Community Center, Grand River, Iowa. Interment was conducted at Crown Hill Cemetery, Seattle, Washington
