Obituary ~ J. O. Bright
July 12, 1931 ~ November 05, 2014

J.O. Bright, age 83, of Lineville, Iowa, the son of Cornelius Earl and Lela Berniece (Porter) Bright, was born July 12, 1931, in Lineville, Iowa. He died at Westview Acres in Leon, Iowa on Wednesday, November 5, 2014.

J.O. grew up in the Lineville area. He graduated from Lineville High School in May of 1951. On January 7, 1952, J.O. joined the United States Navy. He was a Chief Gunner’s Mate at the time of his honorable discharged on March 23, 1972, after several tours of duty.

On December 21, 1958, J.O. and Joan Margaret Johansson were married at Charleston, South Carolina. They were blessed with two children, Jean Ann and James Oliver. While J.O. was in the military, the family lived in Charleston, South Carolina, Key West, Florida, Great Lakes, Illinois, and then New Port, Rhode Island. After J.O.’s military discharge, the family moved to Keosauqua, Iowa where J.O. worked for the Department of Natural Resources for 21 years. They traveled before settling in their current home outside of Lineville in 1997.

J.O. served as chairman of the board of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Keosauqua, and has been a faithful member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leon since 1993.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Earl in October of 1985, and Lela in May of 2008, and his daughter, Jean Ann Bright, on October 21, 2014.

Survivors include his wife, Joan Bright, of Lineville; son, James Bright and wife Susan of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four grandchildren, Andrew James, twins, Caitlin Elaine and Jennifer Lynn, and Melinda Dawn; brothers, Gene Bright of Creston, Iowa and Rex Bright of Newport News, Virginia; sisters, Donna Hollinger and husband Ellis of Lineville, Glenda Bright of Creston, Grace Glassinger of Lineville, and Virginia Burlingame and husband Dennis of San Diego, California; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside Memorial Services were conducted at 2 p.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Gatliff - Bright Cemetery near Lineville, Iowa, with Pastor J. R. Wheeler officiating. Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home of Leon was in charge of arrangements.
