August 06, 1956 ~ October 16, 2014Mary Jo Brown, age 58, of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of John Curtis and Doreen Katherine (McKinney) Brown, was born August 6, 1956 in Chariton, Iowa. She died at the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, Iowa on Thursday, October 16, 2014.
Mary Jo grew up and attended school in Des Moines, Iowa. She was married to Mehdi Golben for a few years, with two or three of those spent living in Iran. They later divorced. Later Mary Jo and her long-time companion, Doyle Short, lived in Leon. He died on November 15, 2009.
Mary Jo was a waitress and cook for 12-14 years in restaurants operated by her sister, Jacky Kuster. She enjoyed spending time with her dogs and bird.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brother, Arch Brown, on December 25, 2001; and companion, Doyle Short.
Survivors include her sister, Jacky Kuster, and husband Larry of Lineville, Iowa; brother, John Brown and wife Juanita of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Terry Brown of Des Moines, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Memorial services will be held at the Slade – O’Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 23, 2014, with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial will in the Clio Cemetery, Clio, Iowa at a later date.
