Obituary ~ Carroll Edwin "Brownie" Brown
March 21, 1913 ~ November 06, 1978

CARROLL EDWIN “BROWINE” BROWN, son of PEARL T. and LUCY JANE LEONARD BROWN, was born March 21, 1913 at Garden Grove, Iowa, and died Nov. 6, 1978 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa, age 65 years, 7 months and 16 days.

He was married to VIRGENE BARRY May 23, 1946 and to this union two children were born.

He served in the U. S. Infantry at Camp Roberts, Calif., from June to Oct. 1941. He was recalled to active service in Jan. 1942 and served until Nov. 1945. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for the Lunzon and New Guinea campaigns, the Bronze Service Arrowhead, the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon, the Combat Infanty Badge, and a Good Conduct Medal.

From 1947 to 1950 he operated Brownie’s Café in Leon.

He was employed by Hy-vee as a retail meat-cutter and market manager 37 years.

Preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his widow VIRGENE; two children, CONNIE SUE CREES and husband GARY, Des Moines, and ROBERT EDWARD BROWN and wife MARLA, Indianola; three grandchildren, MICHELLE CREES, DEBBIE CREES and DARREN BROWN; brother MERRIL and wife JOAN, LeRoy, Iowa.

[Interment was made in Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa.]
