Obituary ~ Andrew Edward Barry
August 28, 1894 ~ July 31, 1983

ANDREW EDWARD BARRY, son of JOHN and LOUISA KETTERRER BARRY, was born Aug. 28, 1894 in Woodland Township of Decatur County, Iowa and died July 31, 1983 at his home in Leon, Iowa, age 88 years, 11 months and 3 days.

He married MARGARET WALTON Feb. 11, 1925 at Leon, Iowa. To this union 2 daughters were born: VIRGENE of Leon and DORINE, who preceded him in death Dec. 1, 1931. He was also preceded in death by his parents; 12 brothers and sisters; and son-in-law, CARROLL “BROWNIE” BROWN.

ANDREW and MARGARET celebrated their 58 anniversary this year. He spent his life as a farmer; served on the Board of Supervisors of Decatur County and the Leon City Council.

He was the oldest living member of St. Brendan Catholic Church. He helped celebrate the 125th Anniversary of the Irish Settlement southeast of Leon in Decatur County 2 years ago.

Survivors are his widow, MARGARET, of the home; daughter, VIRGENE BROWN, Leon; 2 grandchildren: CONNIE CREES and husband, GARY, Des Moines, Iowa: BOB BROWN and wife, MARLA, Earlham, Iowa; 6 great grandchildren: MICHELE, DEBBIE and GARY DEAN CREES, Des Moines, DARREN, JUSTIN and JARROD BROWN, Earlham; nieces, nephews and friends. ANDREW and his wife were assisted in the home by BETTY DEEMER and MITZI FLYNN, who made it possible for him to be able to stay in their home.
