August 17, 1941 ~ December 27, 2014Mary Katherine Andrew, age 73, of Leon, Iowa, the daughter of Hubert Porter and Ruth Lucille (Cook) Beasley, was born August 17, 1941 in Osceola, Iowa. She passed away at her home on Saturday, December 27, 2014 surrounded by her family.
Mary grew up in Decatur County, Iowa. After she graduated from Leon High School in 1959, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa and worked. On December 4, 1960, she married her childhood sweetheart, Bobby Ray Andrew at the Brethren Church in Leon. They were blessed with four children, Tonya, Tony, Tim, and Todd. In earlier years Mary and Bob enjoyed roller skating at Hanaco. She was a practical joker and always enjoyed having a good time.
Over the years, Mary worked in Leon at the extension office, the high school, and in the courthouse in both the auditor's office and the treasurer's office before she became the Decatur County Treasurer. In addition to her full jobs, she and Bob owned and operated the Corner Cafe from 1985 until 1998 and later Video Adventure. In what free time Mary had, she enjoyed cooking, catering salads, and cake decorating.
Mary's family, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren, were most important to her. She will be remembered by her infectious smile, her big heart, and her pride in her work and loyalty to the citizens of Decatur County. She always considered others before herself. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, and friend. Many local kids also knew her as Grammy.
Preceding her in death was her dad, Hubert in 1992 and son, Todd in 1986. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Bob Andrew of Leon; children, Tonya and Randy Pierson of Leon, Tony and Sheri Andrew of Purcell, Oklahoma, and Tim and Beth Andrew of Leon; five grandchildren, Brian, Casey & Janet, Brandon, Bailey, and Shianne; step grandchildren, Amy and Jamee; great grandchildren, Braydon, Vanessa, Nolan, Braycie, Gage, and Alyssa; step great grandchildren, Shelby, Kaleb, Autumn, Colton, Chloe, Bud, Madison, Lynn, and Wyatt; mother, Ruth Beasley of Leon; brothers, Larry & Mary Ellen Beasley of Bella Vista, Arkansas, Gary Beasley of Lawrence, Kansas, Terry Beasley of Lee's Summit, Missouri, Mike & Georgia Beasley of Des Moines, Iowa, and Kenneth & Debbie Beasley in their RV, Bob's family; nieces and nephews; and other family and many friends.
Services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home, Leon, Iowa. Interment was made at the Leon Cemetery, Leon, Iowa. Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
