Thursday, March 01, 1883Death of Mrs. ANNIE E. ALLEY
On Thursday morning about 6 o’clock Mrs. ANNA E. ALLEY, relict of JOHN W. ALLEY, breathed her last at the residence of her father, Rev. A. BROWN, in this city. She was the daughter of Rev. A and M. A. BROWN, was born in Jeffersonville, Ind., and was about 29 years old. She was married at Creston in 1877 to JOHN B. ALLEY of Afton, who died in that City November 1st, 1882, leaving a widow with two girls, aged respectively 3 and 5 years. She has been afflicted with heart disease ever since her husband’s death, which became so alarming about a month since, that Rev. BROWN went to Afton, where she had been living with her mother-in-law, an brought her home, where she had been living lingering between life and death.
Under skill full treatment of Dr. LAYTON her troubles were relieved, but other complications set in and terminated her existence. Mrs. ALLEY has been a great sufferer, but has borne her afflictions with remarkable resignation that was a surprise to all her friends. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon and was largely attended by sympathizing friends.
Elder STEWART and Rev. W. T. SMITH of Indianola conducted the services. Both were well acquainted with the deceased, and made interesting remarks testify to her character as a Christian and a woman of sweet temper and disposition. We hope to publish an obituary next week that will do justice to the memory of ANNIE E. ALLEY.
Card of thanks.
To the kind friends who have assisted us so nobly during our troubles, we wish to express our heartfelt thanks. We indulge in no flattery when we say the generosity surpasses anything we have ever met with.
Dear ANNA was profuse in her expressions of eulogy toward the people of Leon. Although a stranger no greater interest could have been manifested toward a life-long resident, in kind acts and words and attendance at the funeral services. As was fitting, the Methodist people have been foremost in liberality, still many others have lastingly endeared us to them by kindness.
Dr. LAYTON has not only been untiring in his attention, but has shown such genuine sympathy and interests as to secure a warm place in all our hearts.
