Obituary ~ Stephen Ralph "Steve" Akes
May 25, 1885 ~ July 08, 1946

Stephen Ralph Akes, son of Henry and Hester Ann Akes was born 25 May 1885 in Decatur County, Iowa and departed this life at his home in Leon, Iowa, July 8, 1946 at the age of 61 years, one month and 12 days.

As a young man he became a member of the Palestine Baptist Church. He was united in marriage to Sarah Hinds at Bedford, Iowa 25 July 1909. To this union was born two sons. Willard of Liveville, Iowa and Gerald at home.

He was a lifetime member of the community and member of the IOOF lodge at Leon over 40 years. He was engaged in farming for a number of years and later became associated with his brother Bill in the walnut log business. Steve and a large number of friends were wartime acquaintances.

He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, two sons, a grandson Johnny, two sisters, Mrs. Amanda Brown of Van Wert, Mrs. Chloe McCown of Roseburg, Oregon and five brothers, Charles of Osceola, Bill of Leon, Lew of Yakima, Washington, John of Molive, Illinois, Brian of Los Angeles, California and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services were conducted by the Rev. Wilbur Watkins at the Stewart Funeral Home July 11 at 2:00 p.m. with burial in the Leon Cemetery.
