Willard Martin Akes, son of Stephen and Sarah (Hinds) Akes, was born Oct. 26, 1919 in Leon, Iowa, and died at St. Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho on April 8, 1992, age 72. He graduated from Leon High School in 1938.

He married Myra M. Bohnenkamp on July 6, 1938. They were the parents of one son, John.

He served in the United States Navy for three and one-half years during the Pacific Campaign in World War II.

Willard and Myra moved to Idaho in 1956. He was employed by Northwest Pipeline Corporation, where he worked in several capacities for 25 years. He took disability retirement in 1979. They resided in Nampa, Idaho.

He was a longtime member of the Karcher Mall Walkers and member of St. Pauls Catholic Church.

He is survived by his widow of 53 years, Myra of Nampa; son and daugher-in-law John and Barbara, High Point, NC; grandson Marty, Wilmington NC; granddaughter Holly, Greensboro, NC; brother, Gerald, Grimes, Iowa; other relatives and friends.

Interment was made in Leon Cemetery.
