Obituary ~ Goldie June (Hardy) Rhodes
March 29, 1950 ~ September 23, 2014Goldie June Rhodes, age 64 of Osceola, Iowa, the daughter of Wayne Raudrick and Mildred Evelyn (Sage) Hardy, was born on March 29, 1950 at Pekin, Illinois. She died at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
Goldie graduated from High School in Kellerton, Iowa in 1968. The next day on May 19, 1968, she married William Chester "Bill" Rhodes in Grand River, Iowa. They started out their life together on a farm south of Van Wert, Iowa. After 16 years, they moved to east of High Point, Iowa for three years. They returned to the Van Wert area on a farm north of town for six years. Before moving to Osceola, Iowa in October of 2011, they spent 18 years at Gilbert, Iowa, north of Ames.
Goldie was a wife, mother, and homemaker to their five children, Tammy, Brenda, David, Anna, and Jeffery. After the kids were grown, she worked for a few years as a housekeeper at the Super 8 Motel in Ames.
In her free time, Goldie crocheted, did jigsaw puzzles, and embroidered, but her favorite pastime was spending time with and spoiling her grandchildren. She also loved anything tiger.
Preceding her in death were her parents; brothers, Bob and Nelson "Pee Wee" Hardy; sister, Sue Stanley; and sons-in-law, Patrick Shimer and Stephen "Jamie" Henrichs. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Bill Rhodes of Osceola; children, Tammy Shimer of Osceola, Brenda Henrichs and companion, Mike Harrah, of Garden Grove, Iowa, Dave Rhodes and wife Dawna of Corydon, Iowa, Anna Cook and husband Roger of Osceola, and Jeff Rhodes and wife Heather of Maxwell, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Shimer, Kevin Shimer and wife Wendy, Shawn Shimer, Elizabeth Shimer, Kyle Rhodes, BreAnn Rhodes, Rebecca Henrichs, James Rhodes, Katelyn Rhodes, and Will Cook; five great grandchilden, Travis, Justin, Haley, Makaela, and Ryan; siblings, John Hardy and wife Delores of Osceola, Dennis Hardy of Woodburn, Iowa, Lee Hardy and wife Charlotte of Powell, Wyoming, Bill Hardy of Osceola, and Linda Grose and husband Steve of Wright, Wyoming; sister-in-law, Carolyn Hardy of Woodburn, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa at 10 a.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 with Karen Barton officiating. Burial was in the Van Wert Cemetery, Van Wert, Iowa.
