DIED.--In Iowa City, February 12th of cancerous affection, Mr. George Redman, a most noble specimen of manhood. Mr. Redman was born in Blackford Parish, Sommersetshire, England, November 17, 1831. He came to America in 1852, and settled in Dubuque County, Iowa, and removed to Decatur County, in 1872. He was an extensive farmer. His business transactions brought him in contact with a large portion of the people of Decatur and adjoining counties, and yet no man has ever charged him with having defrauded them. Mr. Redman was married in Dubuque County, March 17, 1854, to Miss Jane Baily, by whom he had six children--three of which are living. After her death he went back to England, and married a young lady of his boyhood acquaintance, Miss Louisa J. Fear, by whom he has had four children--the youngest a son sixteen months old. At the time he lived in Dubuque County he made a profession of faith in Christ, and joined the Congregational Church, but had never been identified with any church in Decatur County. For nearly two years Mr. Redman has been troubled with something like cancer. On the 2nd of February he went to Iowa City for treatment. Dr. Peck performed a surgical operation on him on the 4th of February, which resultd in death on the 12th, as above stated. His wife, one son and daughter were with him when he died. His remains were brought home and buried at Decatur City. Funeral services were held by the writer, assisted by Rev. G.E. Mitchell and Rev. Thomas Waller, in the M.E. Church at Decatur. The house was filled with sympathizing friends, all of us feeling that in the death of George Redman we have lost a personal friend. May God bless the bereaved widow and fatherless children. S.
