Ben F. Redman, youngest son of George and Louisa Redman, was born September 14, 1886, five miles south of Van Wert on the Redman homestead, now the home of Bert Binning. He departed this life May 6, 1938, at Osceola, Iowa, following an operation for appendicitis, at the age of 52 years, 7 months and 22 days. When he was only a year and a half old his father passed away. His mother departed this life on February 12, 1924. Others of his family preceding him in death were one brother, two half brothers and one half sister. He was a man of pleasant disposition, always having a smile for everyone. Every day found him busy at something worth while. He spent all of his life in Decatur County, except one year he spent in Wyoming. He was united in marriage to Jessie Wilson and to this union six children were born. They are: Mrs. Madge Kernen of Nodaway, Clifton of Leon, Raymond of Van Wert, Horace of Van Wert, Mrs. Doris Houck of Van Wert, and Marie of Evanston, Illinois. All were with him at the time of his passing. Besides his wife, six children and eight grandchildren, he leaves two brothers, George of Van Wert and Bert of Leon, one sister, Mrs. Cora Binning of Leon, one half brother Walter Redman of Grand River, also his nieces and nephews and a large host of friends. The funeral was held in the Methodist Church in Van Wert, Iowa, Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, May 8, 1938, by Rev. McCallan of Osceola, who conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Myrtle Wolfe-Cox, pastor and Harry O. Tuttle in charge. Interment was made in the Van Wert cemetary. Pallbearers were Carl Upfield, Grover Hamilton, Floyd Boles, Clark Fierce, Burbank Halstead, Harry Blair. The singers were Ernie Saylor, Esther Watson, Crista Mallatt and Charley Evans with Mrs. Allen as pianist.

Card of Thanks -- We wish to express our sincere appreciation to everhyone who helped us bear our deep sorrow. By the beautiful flowers that were sent and the many acts of kindness toward us. Mrs. Ben Redman, Madge, Clifton, Raymond, Horace, Doris and Marie
