JEREMIAH FERGUSON was born in Oneida, N.Y.,
August 24, l82l, and died in
Burrell Township, Decatur County, Aug. 25,
l895, aged 74 years and l
day.

He entered the U.S. Army Nov. 3, l86l, as a
private of Co. G 7th
Michigan Battery of Light Artillery. He was
discharged on account of
disability contracted in time of duty in Feb.
l864. He joined the Gen.
Hancox Post, No. 22, by transfer of card Aug.
l5, l884, and was given
transfer card from said Post and united with
Decatur Post No. 4l0, Aug.
l0, l895.

He joined the Baptist Church when but 20
years of age and has been a
member ever since. His last days were full
of joy and hopefulness for
the future.

It was his request that the G.A.R. Order bury
him and that the writer
should preach his funeral which was done at
the M.E. Church in Decatur,
Aug. 25, at 3 p.m. after which the ritual
service of the order was
carried out at the grave. A loving husband
and father, a notable
citizen and true patriot is gone. The
bereaved family have the sympathy
of the public.
