NILES EMERY CHANDLER, son of W.S. and HANNAH
CHANDLER, was born Oct. l,
l876. His childhood was spent on his
father's farm adjacent to Crown.
Being of delicate physical structure he could
not engage in the rugged
labors and contests of life, but he was a
welcome guest at the
neighbor's home, loved by schoolmates and
teachers. When his father
located in Leon, NILES was in Oklahoma,
seeking that moch coveted boon,
better health. He spent last summer in Leon,
his health declining
during the winter and physicians expressing
no hope of recovery here.

He started five weeks ago in company with his
father, to Texas, hoping
the warmer climate might bring some
recuperation. But he declined and
they started for home, arriving here on last
Friday. He sank rapidly
and Sabbath morn at 2 o'clock, March l7,
l895, the spirit forsook its
earthly mansion. The funeral service was
conducted by Rev. G.D. Gurley,
consisting of scripture passages and prayer
at the house and a regular
service at the Dunkard Church where the
sermon was preached on Job l:2l,
"The Lord gave and the Lord hath taken away,
blessed be the name of the
Lord." Revs. Waller and Cobb took part in the
service at the church and
the choir at Crown Chapel sang. A vast
concourse followed the corpse to
its last resting place, evidencing their
regard for the youth so early
called away from earth and also their
sympathy for the bereaved
household.
