HENRY M. WHITTIER was born in Dover, New
Hampshire, in January, l834,
died at his home in Tuskeego, Iowa, Friday,
March l5, l895. He lived
with his parents in Dover until he came to
young manhood then he drifted
west, finally locating in Decatur County,
Iowa in l859 or '60.
On the l5th day of October, l86l, he enlisted
in Co. I, Mo. Vol.
Infantry, was discharged Dec. 29, l864. He
was a prisoner at
Andersonville several months and never
entirely recovered from the
injuries brought on by his sufferings while
there. He was married to
HESTER ANN DAVENPORT, Sept. 2, l866. To this
union were born eight
children, seven of whom with their mother,
survive him.

They have the sympathy of the community in
their great loss. The
youngest child, VINA, is lying very sick with
but little chance of
recovery; she knows nothing about the death
of her father, and the great
grief of her family. The funeral services
were conducted at the Baptist
Church in Tuskeego by Rev. Fye, assisted by
Rev. Eaton on Saturday,
March l6. MR. WHITTIER was a cousin of the
poet, JOHN G. WHITTIER.
