IRENE ONEY, daughter of W.F. and HANNAH KELLEY was born in Eden Township, Decatur County, Iowa, April l7, l854; was married to MARION ONEY, December 25, l873; died Nov. 4, l894. She was the mother of five children, two died in infancy, three still living; two daughters and a son. She lived a widow only 43 days, her husband having died Sept. 22, l894. She died at her father's residence in Leon, Nov. 4th and the funeral services were held in the Leon Baptist Church on the 5th, conducted by Rev. Gurley, who delivered a very appropriate discourse, after which she was buried by the side of her late husband in the Leon Cemetery.

After an acquaintance of l4 years with MRS. ONEY and the family, the writer of these lines desires to say that he regarded MRS. ONEY as one of the very best women that he ever knew. Her devotion to her husband, who during all these years was never well, and her care of her dear children could not be excelled and her interest in her neighbors as well was manifest in her attendance at the Sunday School and religious meetings when held in the neighborhood, always ready to take a part and do her full share, never complaining or finding fault but always having a kind word for her neighbors, thus setting us an example to follow.

The mysterious providence that was pleased to take her away from her dear children, father, brothers, sisters and many dear friends we cannot comprehend but leave in subjection to the Divine will.
